August Specials

August is one of our favorite months for specials, mostly because we get to bring back the crab, asparagus, and hollandaise breakfast pizza. While we are really excited about everything we are doing this month, this pizza is possibly our favorite.

The crab, asparagus, and hollandaise was actually the very first breakfast pizza special we ran, in August of 2024. But the inspiration of the pizza goes deep into our family history.

August is a big month for Carol's and my family, nearly half of our family members have their birthdays in this month. Notably, my grandmother (Carol's mother), who until her passing was the undisputed matriarch of the family. In many ways this pizza is a homage to her.

Her birthday always prominently featured crab. We always went to the Mad Batter in Cape May, NJ for her birthday breakfast, where she always got a crabcake benedict. We would steam and break apart bushels of crabs for dinner. And the restaurant that she owned would serve a crab and asparagus pasta dish.

It didn't take long for me to find a way of combining these experiences to concoct an outstanding breakfast pizza.

Another August birthday for my family was my Great Aunt Ruth, who happened to have a recipe of an amazing cinnamon roll, that Carol wanted to bake for the store from day 1. Well 4.5 years later, we are finally getting around to trying to recreate this recipe. That said, we decided to diverge from the original recipe by loading these rolls up with our cream cheese frosting. If you're looking for a decadent weekend breakfast treat these babies are only getting baked Saturday and Sunday.

Finally, this month's drink special is the Fruity Pebbles iced latte with Fruity Pebbles cold foam. It's inspired by Fruity Pebbles. It's not a family recipe nor does it find its inspiration from any deep emotional place. It's just good. Try it!
